Minnesota corn and soybean planting still ahead of normal

Despite less than three days suitable for fieldwork last week in Minnesota, corn and soybean planting remain ahead of normal.

The USDA says 94 percent of the state’s intended corn acres have been planted, with nearly 60 percent emerged.

The first condition rating of the season shows 84 percent of corn rated good to excellent.

Soybean planting is at 72 percent, with 16 percent emerged.

Most small grains are planted, while the pace of sunflower and dry edible bean planting lags behind the five year average.

Topsoil and subsoil moisture levels remain 99 percent adequate to surplus following recent rains.
