Minnesota CFANS promotes Raise.me scholarship

The University of Minnesota offers a unique micro-scholarship program for young people interested in majors like animal science and sustainable systems management.

Dean of the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS) Brian Buhr says Raise.me is an online scholarship platform that provides high school students credit for scholastic activities and achievement.

“For example, if kids excel in their science classes, they’ll get credit as well as funding.  And they’re guaranteed that as part of a scholarship coming to the University of Minnesota to get that scholarship funding.  I think of it like Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts how you can win your badges.  It’s sort of like that.”

For the more than 3,300 FFA students attending the annual convention on the Twin Cities campus, Buhr says he and others from the University are spreading the word.

“For students who participate in FFA, that’s something that can get students some funding to go to college too.  So as they go through and think about their goals, they can start to build that credential as well as get some funding to come.”

The micro-scholarships students earn on Raise.me ranges from $30 dollars to $4,000 dollars over four years.
