Michigan releases draft pollinator plan
Michigan has released a draft plan to reduce pesticide risks for managed pollinators.
Meghan Milbrath with Michigan State University Extension tells Brownfield the draft Protection Plan for Managed Pollinators in Michigan includes voluntary strategies for growers, beekeepers, landowners and pesticide applicators. “We have a lot of other agricultural industries that depend on our pollination industry. The other reason it’s very important is that we have a lot of beekeepers that come to Michigan for honey production.”
She says the plan is meant to provide a way to mitigate the risk of pesticides to bees and other pollinators while supporting the use of crop protection.
Public comments on the plan can be made through a feedback survey until June 1st.
The Michigan Department of Agriculture, Michigan State University and Michigan Farm Bureau have partnered on the effort.
