Michigan potato growers support checkoff

The Michigan Department of Agriculture says the state’s potato growers have approved the Michigan Potato Industry Commission for the next five years.

Nearly ninety percent of votes cast were in favor of continuing the referendum.

The Michigan Potato Industry Commission was first established in 1970 to improve research, promotion and marketing of Michigan potatoes.

The current assessment was increased for the first time in 18 years last year to five and a half cents for every 100 pounds of potatoes sold.
