Michigan Cattlemen concerned with bovine TB

The Michigan Cattlemen’s Association plans to strengthen their policy on bovine tuberculosis at their upcoming annual conference.

Executive Vice President George Quackenbush tells Brownfield the association is concerned with the increased number of herds testing positive with bovine TB in Michigan.  “We had been running at a low level and we’ve seen a bit of an uptick and so that’s caused some discussion and I think will continue to cause some discussion at our annual meeting.  We also have some concerns about cattle marketing and we know we’ve seen a lot of volatility in the market.”

He says the organization’s policy is updated each year by members and used to represent the interests of the industry when meeting with legislators. Ten new board directors will also be elected during the January 21st meeting in East Lansing.

Quackenbush says the annual conference will conclude with the Cattlemen’s College which provides producers educational sessions to help add value to their operations.
