McCaskill goes to bat for biodiesel
A U.S. Senator is urging the International Trade Commission to stop Argentina and Indonesia from dumping biodiesel on the market.
“What we’re trying to do is get some tariffs on these biodiesel products that are being dumped. It’s an astounding increase of 463 percent. They’ve captured more than 20 percentage points of the market share from U.S. producers.”
Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill tells Brownfield discounted and depressed feedstock prices in Argentina and Indonesia have lowered the cost to produce biodiesel. “Due to unfavorable export tax regimes, the Argentinean soybean costs are less than half of the world market price and Indonesian palm oil prices are severely depressed.”
She says while the ITC has temporarily provided relief, there needs to be permanent protections to level the playing field for U.S. producers.
