Lawsuit over Costco chicken plant in Nebraska dismissed

Artist’s rendering of the Costco chicken plant to be built at Fremont, Nebraska

A group of Fremont, Nebraska residents who sued the city over Costco’s chicken plant have dropped their case.

The group’s lawsuit alleged that the city violated the law when it declared the parcel of land where the plant will be built “blighted and substandard” to pave the way for tax-increment financing. The city fought back, saying it complied with the law.

Site work on the plant could begin in a few weeks, according to company officials. Their original plan was to begin processing operations in 2018.

As proposed, the plant will process two million broilers per week.
