Kroger reduces food waste footprint by 9%

Kroger says its Zero Hunger Zero Waste efforts reduced the supermarket’s food waste footprint by 9% last year.

In the Zero Hunger Zero Waste plan, Kroger has committed to end hunger in its communities and eliminate waste in the company by 2025.

Kroger outlined progress in its 2019 Environmental, Social, and Governance report.

Some of the highlights include:

-Increased food waste diversion from a landfill by 13%
-Rescued 100 million pounds of fresh food from stores and distribution centers for donation to Feeding America affiliated food banks.
-Formalized sustainability commitments on pollinator protection, deforestation, carbon impact reduction, and more.
