Keeping ag a priority in NAFTA renegotiations

The Chairman of the House Ag Committee says he wants to ensure American agriculture remains a priority as the administration prepares to renegotiate NAFTA.

Mike Conaway says the full Committee will hear testimony this week.  “Trade is a big part of what is important to the success of production agriculture,” he says.  “With the renegotiation of NAFTA, which is entirely appropriate, we need to make sure ag interests are well represented at the table throughout that full negotiation – much like they were with TPP (the Trans Pacific Partnership).”

Several ag industry leaders are scheduled to testify at the hearing Wednesday morning at 10 Eastern/9 Central.

They include Tom Vilsack, president and CEO of the US Dairy Export Council; Kendal Frazier, CEO of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association; Kevin Brosch, with the USA Poultry and Egg Export Council; Floyd Gaibler, US Grains Council; Thomas Hammer, president National Oilseed Processors Association; and Reggie Brown, Florida Tomato Growers Exchange.
