Kansas Wheat Tour scouts reduce final estimate

The Kansas Wheat Tour final estimate is slightly ahead of the five year average, but does not account for snow damaged fields.

Scouts traveling the state over the past three days report a final weighted average of 46.1 bushels per acre, more than five bushels above the five year average for the tour.

Scouts actually expect the crop to average closer to 40 bushels per acre when taking into account snow damage and estimate Kansas’ total crop at 282 million bushels, 40 percent lower than last year’s record.

The final day of the tour saw the largest yields, coming in almost five and a half bushels per acre more than last year at 58.9 bushels.

The 2017 tour cut nearly 200 yield stops from last year because of snow covered fields.

Wheat futures dropped Thursday ahead of the release of the final results of the tour, but bounced back modestly early Friday.
