Judge says 4-H program builds better young people

A livestock judge says 4-H and FFA programs are key to building strong foundations for the future of agriculture and the young people who participate.

During his remarks at Sunday’s Grand Champion drive, judge Ryan Rash told 4-H’ers that not everyone will know what it feels like to have a Grand Champion at the state fair – but because of the skills they learn from participating in youth programs like 4-H – every kid will know what it’s like to be a Grand Champion in some aspect of life.  “They truly will learn life changing skills that will further them in the game of life so much more than their peers that have not had the opportunity to participate in this program,” he says.  “What this program does better than any other program is it simply builds better young people.”

And, he tells Brownfield – young people learn that life is a competition.  “In almost every facet and forum – whether you’re in the job market, little league, or showing calves,” he says.  “I think one of the greatest things it does is it teaches these kids how to win and lose gracefully.”
