Japanese beetles showing up in corn

An agronomist who covers Missouri and Kansas says the Japanese beetle is making itself known, “We’re seeing quite a few Japanese beetles emerge in corn right now.”

Andy Schmidt with WinField United tells Brownfield growers need to pay close attention to their crops, “Kind of reminding growers to watch out for Japanese beetles in corn – that they can potentially clip silks when the silks emerge.”

The University of Missouri Extension says Japanese beetles started showing up in Missouri in May, two weeks ahead of normal and there have been larger-than-normal counts of them along with other pests. Japanese beetles also feed on soybean and wheat crops.
