Indiana state legislative priorities for ag set

Indiana’s 2017 legislative session includes the state budget and Indiana Farm Bureau says funding for infrastructure will priority.

Justin Schneider, director of state government relations says all of the key players in the statehouse have pledged support for the issue.  “It’s important that when you’re going to take a big look at an issue with a long-term solution we make sure rural interests are represented,” he says.  “Local road and bridge funding is a top priority for us.”

He tells Brownfield elected officials need to hear the reality of the challenges members face and farmers need to be engaged with their legislators at the statehouse.  “When the bridges are out and they have to go around 30 extra miles with the semi or they can’t get their farm equipment through a bridge,” he says.  “If the road is crumbling – whatever it may be.  Those sorts of stories, actual facts, and pictures of what they are dealing with every day matter.”

Indiana’s state legislative session begins January 3.
