Indiana State Fair names its Grand Champions

It was a night of champions at the Indiana State Fair.

Hard work and dedication go into making a champion and for six 4-H members, their time and effort was rewarded during the Indiana State Fair Grand Drive on Sunday evening.

For Cody Maxwell of Porter – being able to show on the floor of the Coliseum is the ultimate goal.

And being named Grand Champion Barrow – he says it’s the best thing in the world.  “It’s like a dream come true.”

Lane Slaton of Hamilton County showed the Grand Champion Market Lamb.  He says they’ve put in hours working with his lamb to get to this point – and one of his goals was to do better than last year.  “It feels great – I was third overall last year,” he says.  “To have that improvement – it’s just awesome.”

For Paige Gauck of Decatur County, who exhibited the Grand Champion Rabbit Meat Pen, the hardest part is picking three uniform animals.  “They pretty much have to be identical triplets,” she says.  “Weight, how they feel, and everything about them needs to be the same.  This year we were fortunate enough to get grand champion and have the best Meat Pen Rabbits in Indiana.”

Other winners include Melissa Rudolph of LaPorte Count who had the Champion Dairy Steer; Ethan Beaman of Cass County who showed the Champion Meat Goat Wether; and Remington Brumbaugh who exhibited the Champion Steer.

Top placing 4-H members will be recognized for their hard work at the Celebration of Champions event held on August 20th.  Nearly 100,000 is raised by the Indiana State Fair Foundation to provide monetary awards for the winners.
