Indiana planting progress: 91% corn; 75% soybeans

The Indiana corn crop continues to struggle.  According to the latest weekly crop and weather report just 46 percent of the crop is rated good to excellent.  Ninety-one percent of the crop is planted and 74 percent is emerged.

After Mother Nature forced Jasper County farmer Dave Rodibaugh out the field for a total of 27 days, he finally finished planting corn last week.  “Most of our early corn went in April 23 to the 26,” he says.  “And that corn looks good.  Although some corn planted in that time frame is beginning to show signs of being too cold and also signs of moisture stress.”

Seventy-five percent of soybeans have been planted with 47 percent emerged.

Ninety-six percent of the winter wheat crop is headed, 23 percent mature, 1 percent harvested and 67 percent of the crop is rated good to excellent.

Sixty-four percent of the first cutting of alfalfa hay is complete.
