Indiana crops: corn 52%, soybeans 54% good to excellent

Favorable weather conditions helped Indiana farmers make good progress in fields this past week. According to the latest USDA Crop and Weather report, 52 percent of the corn crop was rated good to excellent. The report shows that 95 of the crop is silking, 45 percent is in dough stage, and 3 percent is dented.

Soybeans are rated 54 percent good to excellent. Ninety percent of the soybean crop is blooming and 65 percent is setting pods.

Ninety-six percent of the second cutting of alfalfa hay is finished and 43 percent of the third cutting of alfalfa is complete.

Topsoil moisture is 87 percent and subsoil moisture is 89 percent adequate to surplus.
