Indiana: corn 47%, soybeans 51% good to excellent

Weather continues to create additional struggles for Indiana farmers.  Last week’s scattered storms brought relief to some drought stressed crops, but heavy downpours led to more ponding in several fields.

According to the latest weekly crop report just 47 percent of the state’s corn crop is rated good to excellent with 8 percent of the crop silking.  Fifty-one percent of soybeans are rated good to excellent and 14 percent of the crop is blooming.

The winter wheat crop is advancing with 93 percent mature and 56 percent of the crop harvested.

Farmers are cutting and baling hay, side-dressing nitrogen, and controlling weeds and pests as weather permits.

Topsoil and subsoil moisture are both 91 percent adequate to surplus.
