Improving infrastructure influences RFS

A Midwestern senator says advancements in infrastructure helped convince the Environmental Protection Agency to raise Renewable Volume Obligations for 2017 to statutory levels.

Al Franken of Minnesota tells Brownfield the normal pushback from EPA on concerns like a lack of blender pumps are apparently being alleviated.

“I think that might be because Secretary of Agriculture Vilsack spent about $100 million dollars in getting  (blender pumps) into the system.”

Over the past two years, the USDA has invested more than $100 million dollars in the Biofuels Infrastructure Partnership program.

Franken tells Brownfield it also appears the Obama Administration is finally recognizing all the benefits from renewable fuels.

“They’re American made, provide America jobs, and it’s good for our economy to be creating its own gasoline and diesel.”

Last week, the EPA released RFS requirements that meet or exceed targets specified by Congress for total renewable fuel, biomass-based diesel, and advanced biofuel.
