Illinois farmer says corn incredibly uneven

Corn is emerging at a normal rate in Illinois but a farmer says in his area, it’s extremely variable. Paul Jeschke grows corn and soybeans in northeastern Illinois’ Grundy County, near Mazon, “I’ve farmed for a long time and I’ve never seen the corn in quite this bad of state at this time of the year. Incredibly uneven.” Jeschke tells Brownfield Ag News he had to replant 20% of his corn crop because of flooding and half of that failed.

96 percent of Illinois corn has emerged. Half the crop is in good condition, about one-third is in fair shape.

Soybean planting in Illinois, as of Sunday, was ahead of the five-year average at 93 percent complete.

Winter wheat harvest is ahead, nearly one-fourth completed. More than 60-percent of the crop is in good to excellent condition.
