House budget includes funding for Peoria Ag Lab

The House Appropriations Committee has included federal funding for Peoria’s Agriculture Research Lab in their markup of the ag appropriations bill.  The facility, along with 16 other USDA labs would be closed under President Trump’s proposed budget, which was released earlier this year.

Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (D,IL-17) says the ag lab has kept Peoria at the center of innovation in the ag economy.  The lab has developed technology that has benefited US troops, farmers, and American consumers.  She says she’ll continue to fight to protect the lab from closure under President Trump’s proposed budget.

Congressman Darin LaHood (R, IL-18) says it is critical that the Peoria Ag Lab receives federal funding to continue its work.  He says he’ll continue to work alongside Congresswoman Bustos to ensure funding is maintained as Congress continues the appropriations process.

In June the Representatives submitted a letter to the Appropriations Committee Chairman and Ranking Member urging them to maintain federal funding for the Peoria Agriculture Lab.
