Grassley on farm bill extension and regs

An outspoken member of the Senate Agriculture Committee says while he’s advocating for a five-year farm bill to be passed this year, he’s betting Congress will pass a one-year extension of the current farm bill.

“If there’s a serious effort to do all these taxes and fiscal cliff stuff before Christmas, as opposed to pushing it into next year then that would give less time for consideration of a five-year farm bill,” says Republican Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa.

Grassley also says that with the Obama administration getting another four years, he believes regulations will remain an issue for agriculture, “You’re going to find the same hideous, detrimental regulation, not only as it applies to agriculture. It’s going to be very harmful to the economy and cut down on job growth,” Grassley says.

Grassley told reporters this morning that he has an important meeting later today that will shed more light on what the farm bill strategy is moving forward. Grassley would not say with whom he is meeting.
