Future of agriculture represented at Trump’s “Farmers Roundtable”

A National FFA officer invited to a roundtable discussion on ag issues with President Trump says his administration is concerned about the future of agriculture.

National FFA Central Region vice president Valerie Earley of Minnesota sat next to the President Tuesday during an hour-long “Farmers Roundtable.”

She tells Brownfield Trump and new USDA Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue wanted the next generation represented while policies involving trade and immigration were addressed.

“No matter where you stand on issues, this has to be important to all of us because it is the future of agriculture.  And FFA members are the ones who are going to continue on agriculture and continue to make those improvements that will continue to feed more and more people.”

Earley says she came away from the White House visit confident President Trump and his staff understand the challenges facing rural America.

“He asked a lot of questions of the farmers, and it was good to see that he knew the issues but was willing to hear what the farmers were experiencing and what was happening in their rural communities.”

Earley, of the Spring Valley Wykoff FFA Chapter, says Vice President Pence was also involved in part of the meeting.
