First criminal charges brought for violating California’s Prop 2 law

A San Bernardino County farm has become the first farm to have criminal charges brought against it for violating California’s Prevention of Farm Animal Cruelty Act.

Also known as Proposition 2, the law requires that each egg-laying hen must be able to fully spread its wings without touching another animal.  Tuesday authorities charge Hohberg Poultry Ranch with 39 counts of violating the law along with 16 other charges for violating the state’s cruelty code.

The charges come following an on-site investigation conducted by the San Bernardino County District Attorney, HSUS, Inland Valley Humane Society, and the Ontario Police Department February 10, 2016.
