Farmer bringing conservation and new farmer message to Minnesota

A cover crops expert will be sharing the knowledge he’s gained over 15 years with Minnesota farmers.

South Dakota no-till farmer Rick Bieber will keynote a workshop in southeast Minnesota later this week hosted by the Land Stewardship Project.

Organizer Karen Stettler says soil health is only part of Beiber’s message.

“He’s done different things with his soil that have really allowed him the chance to increase his yields and double his organic matter.  And he has always had this premise that different generations really need to help each other, so he’s kind of put his values and intentions in that direction.”

She tells Brownfield Beiber started a program to assist beginning farmers in his area, and will address that topic as well.

The LSP workshop titled “Roots for our Future: Building Soil and New Farmers is Thursday at Peace United Methodist Church in Plainview.
