Farm Bureau Foundation for Ag launches Purple Plow Challenge

The American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture has launched a new educational program for middle schoolers across the country.

Foundation education specialist Lauren Arbogast says the Purple Plow Challenge encourages students in sixth through eighth grade to research scenarios related to food, hunger and sustainability.

“The plow symbolizes the history of agriculture, and the purple represents the innovation and exciting ways agriculture is working to solve challenges today.”

The first challenge is underway and open to classrooms at www.purpleplowchallenge.org.

“The Foundation has always been innovative and kept up with trends in education, so this was just another thing birthed out of brainstorms looking to help teachers and meet them where they are in the classroom.  While obviously spreading the good news about agriculture.”

Arbogast tells Brownfield the Purple Plow Challenge also works well as an after-school, 4-H club, library learning or even scout club program.

The program is sponsored by DuPont Pioneer.
