Farm bill policy meetings scheduled in Illinois

Illinois farm and commodity groups are holding a series of Farm Bill policy meetings starting this week.

University of Illinois assistant professor Jonathan Coppess will moderate the sessions, and he tells Brownfield the meetings are a first step.

“This is the first step, the grass roots, the ground level discussions about the current farm bill, about issues farmers are seeing and we’re looking for the first round of their thoughts and feedback about what kind of things should be discussed, thought through and worked on for the next farm bill,” says Coppess.

Coppess says the current farm bill is set to expire in 2018 and the organizations want to gauge farmers on the issues and what they would like to see in any upcoming farm bill legislation.

Illinois Farm Bureau along with beef, corn, pork and soybean organizations will be sponsoring the meetings. A meeting will be held November 22nd in Normal, and on November 29th in Sycamore.
