All eyes turning to the weather

Now that USDA has released its Acreage and Quarterly Stocks report, a grain analyst says the market will shift its attention to weather.

Angie Setzer, vice president of grain for Michigan-based Citizens Elevator says there is plenty to watch.  “The national weather service released their 8 to 14 day forecast expecting extreme heat and dryness in the Western Corn Belt,” she says.  “Specifically in the areas that are already struggling with drought conditions.”

She tells Brownfield if hot and dry forecasts persist, the market will take notice.  “North and South Dakota alone of the past couple of years have basically been 9 percent of the overall corn production,” she says.  “Any significant issues there down into Nebraska and parts of Iowa could start to trim things back especially with the Eastern Corn Belt struggling with their conditions so far this year.”
