Dairy processors challenged to reach today’s consumers

The CEO of Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin puts the onus on dairy processors to reach consumers.

Chad Vincent says customers want product innovation, and it’s the dairy processors that can provide it.

“The cheese companies, the milk companies, they’re the ones that we’re working with a lot to help them understand: innovate or die.”

Speaking to Brownfield at the Dairy Experience Forum in the Twin Cities, he says there’s progress in the fluid milk space.

“Bringing in new flavors (like) salted caramel milk. They’re spectacular in terms of flavor (and) exactly what consumers want. And I think we’re finally starting to see more innovation quicker, faster, harder from the processor side.”

Vincent says the pace of innovation must keep up to help dairy farmers trying to survive.

“Pricing has been horrible for four years. So they’re trying to keep their nose above water just by figuring out how to run their business more effectively.”
