USDA’s all-milk price increased 20 cents on the month to $17.30 per hundredweight for September. The 1.2 percent increase from the previous month was still 1.1 percent lower than 2015.

Florida had the highest milk price at $21.40 and California was the lowest at $15.73 of the 23 states reporting. Midwest states on the higher end of prices included South Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin all close to $18.  Michigan was on the low end at $16.20.

The September Margin Protection Program margin jumped about a dollar from the summer average to $9.48 in part because of lower feed costs and was the largest since December 2014.
