Crop variability seen across Midwest

Variability seems to be a major theme as the 2017 growing season reaches mid-June.

Jeff Hartz, director of marketing for Illinois-based Wyffels Hybrids, says planting delays are causing uneven crop development across the Midwest.

“A lot of places were really wet early, so there was a lot of replant.  A lot of fields with varying populations and plant stands.”

He tells Brownfield many areas are now becoming too dry.

“Some of the implications of that (include) seedling issues and disease issues early.”

Hartz says Wyffels will be covering these and other topics later this month during their Corn Strategies Conference in northwest Iowa.
