Corn planting nears completion
Warm, dry weather helped many farmers wrap up corn planting and make significant progress on soybeans. According to the latest weekly crop report 94 percent of the corn crop has been planted, 80 percent is emerged, and 72 percent is rated good to excellent.
Eighty-two percent of the state’s soybean crop has been planted, 56 emerged, and 73 percent rated good to excellent.
The wheat crop continues to progress ahead of last year’s pace with 95 percent of the crop headed and 5 percent mature.
Cutting and baling of alfalfa continues at a rapid pace as 73 percent of the 1st cutting of alfalfa hay is complete.
