Some corn damaged by storms but overall it looks good

Severe storms early last week brought wind damage to fields as well as hail damage in some areas. In comparison to recent weeks, the rainfall totals were relatively light and the rest of the week remained mostly sunny, allowing some farmers to spray and complete some side-dressing.

According to the latest crop and weather report, 75 percent of the state’s corn crop is rated good to excellent but some farmers are reporting green snap.  Fourteen percent of the corn crop has silked.  The state’s soybean crop is rated 71 percent good to excellent and 30 percent of the crop is blooming.

Wheat harvest is well underway with 52 percent of the crop harvested and 79 percent mature.  Nearly 100 percent of the state’s first cutting of hay and 41 percent of the second cutting is complete.  Seventy percent of the range and pastures are rated good to excellent.
