Challenging harvest in central Minnesota

An extension educator says it has been a challenging harvest for central Minnesota farmers.

Karen Johnson covers McLeod and Meeker counties and tells Brownfield there was a lot of concern earlier this month.

“Up until about two weeks ago, people were wondering how they were going to get all the crops out of the field.  But, we did get that dry stretch and got a good chunk of (the crop) out.”

She says rain this week renewed worries about how the remaining harvest will go.

For what’s been combined, Johnson says most area farmers are pleased with yields.

“Sixty, 65-plus bushels per acre for soybeans.  And ranges in that 180 to 200-plus for corn in the area.”

Johnson says the majority of soybean acres in McLeod and Meeker Counties have been harvested, but there’s a ways to go with corn.
