Central Illinois crops a case of haves and have-nots

Central Illinois farmer Troy Uphoff says farmers in his area are divided by haves and have-nots.  Uphoff tells Brownfield the area averaged a foot of rain during one week in May, from which crops recovered and look good now if they’ve had adequate moisture since then.

“We’ve have areas that have had five inches of rain for the months of June and July, we have other areas that have only had two or three tenths [of an inch] of rain,” Uphoff told Brownfield Ag News Monday.  “We have areas I hope will make 120 bushes to the acre corn, and we have other areas that I think could be 175 to 190.”

Uphoff says a farming community near him went more than two months with just a half-inch of rain.
