Cautious optimism for pork producers

The outgoing president of Indiana Pork says despite some of the challenges facing the state’s pork producers – there are some areas that are showing optimism.

Jason Slaton says producers are excited about new opportunities for marketing.  “We do have new packing plants coming on in Coldwater, Michigan and Sioux City, Iowa,” he says.  “We also have to look at domestic demand and export demand are doing and working to grow those markets.”

He tells Brownfield Indiana pork plays a big role in the global market.  “We certainly understand what the impact of our industry is on Indiana and around the world,” he says.  “We want to make sure we continue to grow that.”

Slaton spoke to Brownfield at Indiana Pork’s annual meeting this week.
