The Michigan Department of Agriculture Director says the state’s 21st Century Infrastructure Commission report identifies areas that will need investment for the long-term viability of Michigan.

Jamie Clover Adams says the recommendations address infrastructure needs throughout urban and rural areas including increased access to broadband.  “There’s about 17 percent of the state that does not have access or has not adopted broadband and for agriculture and food, that’s just critical to compete in the global marketplace.”  She says a shared vision for water and drain management will also assure environmental impact improvements provide better water quality.

Cherry grower and Michigan Farm Bureau board member Ben LaCross represented the agriculture community with Clover Adams on the commission. He says the report addresses things farmers and rural communities really need and serves as a blueprint to guide Michigan toward best-in-class infrastructure for the next 30 to 50 years.
