Brancel says producing for dairy marketplace is challenging
Wisconsin’s Ag Secretary told a dairy summit meeting the industry is starting to look at how producers, processors, and sellers can work together instead of focusing only on their part of the industry. Ben Brancel tells Brownfield producing for the marketplace isn’t as simple as it sounds. “You hear you have to produce for the marketplace. Nobody understands that. Who is your market? For the farmer, the market was whoever picked up their milk. For the guy who had the milk plant or the woman who was marketing the milk, it was the customer that was buying.”
And, he says product and market research is important to increase dairy sales. “You have to understand who wants your product, how do they want your product in what form, and what are the things you can do to enhance your capabilities of producing that product.”
Brancel says last week’s University of Wisconsin Dairy Summit was important because it brought together the different complex parts of the dairy community to talk about their future.
I think you were my RA at Melcher Hall in 1971 in P-Ville. Good job!
