Most boaters find it easy to pick the right fuel

A new survey suggests most American boaters find it easy to pick the right fuel at the pump.

Growth Energy and CK Motorsports, which is based in the Great Lakes, polled 500 U.S. boat owners ahead of summer boating season hoping to dispel the notion that retailers offering higher ethanol blends would confuse boaters.

Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor says 94 percent of those questioned were confident when making their fuel choice.

“So it’s important for boaters to know that you can use fuel with E10.  E15 would not be the fuel to use for your marine engine, you’ll want to stick with E10.  So as we’re building out E15 in the marketplace, make sure that it’s very clear at the pump to understand the choice that you’re making.”

CK Motorsports owner Keith Holmes points out 97 percent of the nation’s fuel supply is blended with 10 percent ethanol (E10).

He says all current boat engines are warrantied for E10 and have been for nearly two decades.

The fuel labeling is mandated under federal law, as some small equipment and marine engines should only be fueled with E10.
