Automakers respond to growing biodiesel demand

A record number of biodiesel-capable diesel vehicles have been introduced by U.S. automakers and some are on display at the National Biodiesel Conference this week in San Diego.

John Schwegman, the Executive Director of Commercial Product for General Motors, says biodiesel vehicles support American farmers and answer demands for increased fuel efficiency, performance and sustainability.

“The concerns about the environment, the concerns about sustainability are real. What diesel brings and biodiesel in particular means support for the local economy, especially the farming industry. It helps to promote energy security,” says Schwegman.

Schwegman says GM has more than 20 biodiesel-capable vehicle options for the 2017/’18 model year, all for use with the B20 blend.  The National Biodiesel Board calls GM an industry leader in adopting biodiesel technology. Biodiesel vehicles using B-20 from Ford and Nissan and off-road vehicles by John Deere are also featured at the conference.

Biodiesel engines can also run on regular diesel fuel.
