Ag Secretary Vilsack says goodbye

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack

Tom Vilsack has left the Department of Agriculture.  The outgoing Secretary of Agriculture confirmed his Friday departure in a letter thanking the nearly 90-thousand USDA employees for their service during his tenure.

Vilsack gave no reason for leaving a week before the Obama administration leaves Washington. On Monday, in an exclusive interview with Brownfield, Vilsack said he had a few days left as USDA secretary.

Brownfield reported January 3rd, based on a report by Agri-Pulse, that Vilsack might replace outgoing President Tom Suber at the U.S. Dairy Export Council, but neither Vilsack nor the organization has confirmed or denied that move.

Acting Deputy Secretary Michael Scuse will serve as the acting Secretary of Agriculture.
