Ag groups ‘not giving up’ on TPP

capitol_domeThe American Soybean Association and the National Oilseed Processors Association say they’re not giving up on efforts to get the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement approved in the lame duck session of Congress.

The two groups have developed a new document designed for delivery to congressional staff. It contains detailed infographics showing the ways in which TPP benefits soybean farmers, as well as the processors and exporters that take U.S. soybeans to markets around the world.

ASA president Richard Wilkins says the potential benefits of TPP for soybean farmers are “huge”, including better access for soybeans and soy products in the eleven partner nations. But even more impactful, he says, will be increased sales of soybean meal for animal feed as a result of “a dramatic increase” in the sale of poultry, pork, beef, dairy and eggs to TPP markets.
