Ag equipment sales begin to trend up

The down farm economy continues to negatively affect sales of agricultural equipment.

However, data from the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) suggests that trend is beginning to change.

In its November “Flash” report, AEM says sales of all tractors in the U.S. were eight percent higher than the same month last year, and up three percent overall.

For the 11 months of 2016, more than 194,000 tractors were sold, compared to just over 189,000 in 2015.

Sales of tractors under 40 horsepower are up 12 percent over year-ago levels, but sales of two and four-wheel drive tractors of 100 or more horsepower are off 23 percent.

And combine sales plummeted again this year, with a 26 percent decrease over the same period in 2015.
