Ag Advisor: Trump Administration committed to fair trade for American Farmers
An ag advisor to President Trump says the administration is committed to ensuring fair trade deals for American farmers.
Ray Starling, White House Special Assistant for Agriculture, Trade and Food Assistance, says Trump is committed to opening and growing foreign trade markets for American ag products.
“That eliminate tariff’s or subsidy regimes that unfairly disadvantage American products and hold our trading partners accountable when they invoke unfair market practices,” says Starling.
He says the production output of American farms continues to grow significantly.
“Given the American farmers impressive ability to increase productivity and output at a rate much higher than what we actually need to consume here in our country, our farmers have to have access for foreign markets,” says Starling.
Starling says the administration won’t lose sight of the number one concern for American farmers, profitability.
“The number one farm preservation tool we have is farm profitability. Not buzzwords, not catch phrases or a federal grant program…farm profitability,” says Starling.
Starling spoke to ag leaders Tuesday in Washington D.C. as a part of a National Ag Day event. President Trump also signed a proclamation Tuesday designating March 21 as National Agriculture Day, the first President to do so since Bill Clinton.
