ADM pleased WRRDA’s advancing

An Archer Daniels Midland official in Missouri this week  tells Brownfield that ADM is pleased to see movement of the WRRDA bill, which recently passed the U.S. House after having already passed in the Senate.  Chris Riley, ADM’s director of state government relations, says ADM is “very supportive” of the Water Resources Reform & Development Act which includes provisions to improve locks and dams.

Riley says, “The Mississippi River, the Missouri River, the Illinois River – everything that’s coming down into St. Louis and then heading south to New Orleans – ADM operates a lot of barges along the Mississippi River. If we can get funding for locks and dams and just the rivers in general it’s so important for farmers because what the farmer grows can end up anywhere in the world. And, ADM wants to assist in that but it also takes the right transportation network to do it as well.”

The WRRDA bills go to a House and Senate conference committee and some expect it to pass in the next few weeks. Funding for the improvements would take additional congressional action.
