Morton Buildings becomes employee-owned

Illinois-based Morton Buildings, Inc. has become entirely employee-owned after more than 100 years as a family-owned company.

Marketing Manager Brian Haraf tells Brownfield the transition is not related to the current ag economy.  “I think it’s more coincidence.  This is a family-owned company where the owners were looking to make that transition out of the business being at the age they’re at, it’s been something we’ve been working on for a very long time.”

He says for the 1,700 employees, the announcement means security and longevity.  “I believe that there were other options out there, in fact I’m certain there were other options through private equity and other companies who were interested in Morton Buildings.  The owners made an effort and recognized that this needed to go back to the employees.”

Haraf says the company has diversified to service rural communities as well as agricultural customers and is experiencing a bit of a turnaround in business so far this year.

Morton Buildings currently operates in 43 states with 103 construction centers and 8 manufacturing plants.
