Precision tools are maximizing return on investment

A central Wisconsin farmer says by utilizing an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) as a crop management tool, her family farm increased productivity significantly in 2015.

Megan Wallendal says by using a UAV and the correct software to scout her fields she was able to proactively manage crops to prevent yield loss before it happened.  “If you get an image at V4 and see you’re having nutrient deficiency issues but can spray, side dress, or do whatever tomorrow before V5-V6 corn set – you’ve just prevented a loss of yield,” she says.

Wallendal’s family farm raises a diverse set of crops on its 3,200 acre farm. Her family began using the Precision Drone Pacesetter UAV and the Precision Vision software to scout and manage fields this past growing season.

She says her farm saw big yield increases after just one year of use.  “This year in particular by running different studies we saw anywhere from a 1.2 tonne increase to a 5 tonne increase,” she says.  “That’s about 10 to 35 bushels.  In a tight margin year – that will cover the investment.”
