Midday cash livestock markets

Light direct cash cattle trade is reported in Eastern Nebraska and parts of Kansas.  Northern dressed trade is $175 to $177 – roughly $8 to $10 lower than last week’s weighted average basis in Nebraska.  Southern live deals are at $110 – about $5 lower than last week.  Asking prices have been around $115 to $117 live and $180 to $182 in the North.  Bids are reported at $110 live and $175 to $177 dressed.

Boxed beef cutouts are lower on light to moderate box movement.  Choice is down $1.85 at $195.66 and select is down $.47 at $194.57.

At the Sheridan Livestock Auction in Rushville, Nebraska feeder steers were steady to $5 lower.  The USDA says demand was moderate to good throughout the sale and offerings were 90 percent steers with 99 percent of the offerings weighing over 600 pounds.  Medium and Large 1 steers 900 to 950 pounds were $141.75 to $147.50 and Medium and Large 1 steers 960 to 1000 pounds were $135.50 to $140.75.  Medium and Large 1 heifers 850 to 900 pounds brought $136.00 to $145.75.  Medium and Large 1 heifers at 638 pounds brought $146.00

Cash hogs are trading lower at the midday.

Barrows and gilts at the Iowa/Southern Minnesota are $1.20 lower with a range of $70.00 to $77.00 with a weighted average of $75.61; the Western Corn Belt is $1.24 lower with a range of $70 to $77 and an average of $75.61; trade is not reported at the Eastern Corn Belt due to confidentiality; and at the National Daily Direct, barrows and gilts are $1.10 lower with a range of $70 to $77 and an average of $75.29.

Butcher hogs at the Midwest cash markets are steady to $2 lower at $48 to $53.  At the Interior Missouri Direct the USDA says both supply and demand are light to moderate.  Barrows and gilts are steady at $69 to $71 and sows are steady at $58 to $70.  At Illinois sows are trading $1 lower at $57 to $71 and the USDA says there’s moderate demand for moderate office.  Barrows and gilts are steady with moderate demand for moderate offerings.

Pork cutout is up $.70 at $92.25 – led by a big jump in ribs, loins, and hams.
