Midday cash livestock markets

Direct cash cattle trade is quiet this morning with action limited to the distribution of new showlists.  This week’s trade will likely follow last week’s suit and be postponed until Wednesday – or later.  Southern live deals were at mostly $115 compared to the previous week where bids were $1 to $2 lower in Kansas and $2.50 to $3.00 lower in Texas. The majority of Northern dressed trade last week was at $185 and $2.00 to $3.00 lower basis in Nebraska.

Boxed beef cutouts are higher with generally light movement.  Choice is up .20 at the midday at $199.80 and Select is up $.59 at $196.71.

For the South Dakota Weekly Auction Summary for last week has feeder steers and heifers are $2.00 $5.00 lower.  The USDA says there was moderate to good demand for cattle.  Medium and Large 1 steers 800 to 900 pounds brought $139.00 to $155.00 and Medium and Large 1 steers 900 to 1000 pounds brought $135.50 to $152.00.  Medium and Large 1 heifers 800 to 900 pounds brought $130.75 to $145.00 and Medium and Large 1’s 900 to 990 pounds brought $129.25 to $147.75 with 39 fleshy heifers weighing 915 to 926 pounds bringing $123.00 to $125.50.

Cash hogs were expected to open steady to $1 lower today.  Trade at the National daily direct is $.70 lower with a range of $72 to $79.50 and a weighted average of $77.00.  The other major direct market were not reported due to confidentiality.

Butcher hogs at the Midwest cash markets are steady to $5.00 lower ranging from $50.00 to $55.00.

At the Interior Missouri Direct – barrows and gilts are steady to $2 higher with a range of $72 to $73.  The USDA says both supply and demand are light to moderate.

At the Illinois Direct sow prices are steady with moderate demand, for moderate offerings at a range of $58 to $72.  The USDA called barrows and gilt prices weak with moderate demand for moderate offerings and a range of $47 to $55.

Pork cutout is firm – up $.22 at $94.66.  Big gains in bellies and picnics were moderated by losses in the ribs and butts.
