Friday cash livestock prices

The cash cattle trade was completed on Thursday with trade and demand moderate in the Southern Plains, Nebraska and the Western Cornbelt. Live sales in the South were mostly 2.00 higher at 128.00.Nebraska live sales were 3.00 to 9.00 higher at 129.00, dressed sales closed 5.00 to 7.00 higher from 206.00 to 207.00 with 1to 14 and 15 to 30 day delivery for both prices. Western Cornbelt live sales were 4.00 to 10.75 higher from 126.00 to 130.00, and dressed 5.00 to 8.00 higher from 205.00 to 208.00.

The weekly cattle slaughter was estimated at 590,000 head, 17,000 more than last week, and 39,000 greater than last year

Boxed beef cutout values ended the day firm to higher on moderate to fairly good demand and moderate to heavy offerings. Choice beef was up 1.41 at 212.08, select was .72 higher at 199.48.

Feeder cattle receipts at Missouri auctions this week totaled 36,839 head. Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold 3.00 to 5.00 higher with several spots of 6.00 to 10.00 higher. The supply of feeders was moderate to heavy. A week of warm dry weather made getting cattle loaded and off the farm much easier. Demand was good with some buyers continuing to buy cattle for grazing summer pastures and several reporters noted very good demand for heifers under 600 pounds that have replacement potential. Feeder steers medium and large 1 averaging 624 pounds brought 155.25 per hundredweight. 624 pound heifers traded at 139.18.

Barrows and gilts in the Iowa/Minnesota direct trade closed .54 lower at 56.12 weighted average on a carcass basis, the West was down .60 at 56.05, and nationally the market was .60 lower at 56.04. Missouri direct base carcass meat price is steady to 1.00 lower on Friday from 49.00 to 51.00. The Missouri sow market is also steady to 1.00 lower from 31.00 to 39.00.

The pork carcass cutout value ended the day .57 lower at 74.58 FOB plant.

Feeder pig receipts nationally this week totaled 98,672 head. Compared to last week early weaned pigs were 2.00 per head lower. All feeder pigs trended 4.00 lower. Demand was light to moderate for moderate offerings. Early weaned pigs on a 10 to 12 pound basis 22.00 to 38.00 per head. 40 pound pigs 51.00 to 70.00 per head.

The weekly hog slaughter was estimated at 2.223.000 head, 83,000 less than last week, but 28,000 more than last year.
