Managing for Profit
Looking for ways to increase corn yields–cheaply
Cost-efficient crop production practices have always been important to growers. And they’re even more important in 2016 with grain prices at or below the cost of production.
One of the speakers at the recent Fremont Corn Expo in Fremont, Nebraska was Purdue Extension corn specialist Bob Nielsen. Nielsen discussed key agronomic decisions that impact profitable corn production. “You can either cut costs or you can strive to increase yields cheaply,” Nielsen says. “By that I mean, basically, if you can increase yields by no more than roughly the direct cost of that bushel, that will increase that contribution margin.”
Nielsen shared some of his thoughts on the subject in an interview with Brownfield.
